Ayurveda is a sanskrit word which means life (ayur) science (veda) – in other words the science of life. Ayurveda deals with ailments at their roots. It takes a “holistic” approach to healthcare that takes into account not only the individual’s physiological condition but physchological, social, environmental and even spiritual dimensions that cause the illness. Ayurveda believes in achieving balance in lifestyle. Hence what medical researchers today recommend as the “balanced lifestyle” – has always been at the heart of Ayurveda! Not surprisingly, health professionals today are readier to accept complementary medicine such as natural herbs as prescribed in Ayurveda alongside mainstream medicines.
